The Hume Highway: Global Green Road Corridor #14

Electrifying heavy freight on Australia's busiest corridor.

HumeZero is an industry coalition working to make electric freight viable between Sydney and Melbourne. Recognised as a Global Green Road Corridor at COP30.

The corridor in numbers

Sydney to Melbourne via the Hume
840 km
Trucks per day on the busiest sections
4,800+
Diesel burned on the corridor daily
1.5m litres
Freight moved along the corridor yearly
20m tonnes

What HumeZero is

A coalition of shippers, carriers, infrastructure operators and government working to make electric freight viable on the Hume Highway. The corridor was recognised as a Global Green Road Corridor at COP30 in Belém, November 2025. We work with the Drive to Zero programme, with CALSTART as international secretariat.

Why it hasn't happened yet

Range, charging, energy supply, driver rules and freight economics all have to work at once, and today they don't. Solving the corridor means solving them together, in sequence, with committed volume behind each step.

What we're asking for

Infrastructure follows committed volume.

Shippers
Commit lane volume.

A stated intention to move freight electrically, even one lane, even a partial share, is what lets carriers and infrastructure invest ahead of you. We're asking for volume, not cheques.

Carriers & fleet operators
Join aggregated procurement.

Electric trucks are cheaper ordered together and easier to finance leased against committed freight. No single operator should carry the transition risk alone.

Infrastructure suppliers
Site the corridor.

Charging depots, grid connections and land along the route only pencil out against known volume. Tell us what you'd build, and where, if the volume were there.

Government
Coordinate, don't just fund.

Two states and the Commonwealth need one timetable for grid, land, permits and standards. Coordination unlocks more here than capital does.

Register interest

Tell us what you can bring.

Ship freight, run trucks, build infrastructure, or work in government: tell us who you are and what you could commit. We'll come back to you directly.
